I Want to Go Back

I want to go back to where the daily pulse
is pounded out by carpet sticks in courtyards.
Wet carpets on cement walls,
sunbubbles
someonesinging.

Also sun on our dusty carpet inside,
naked openwindow love
Ahh, it is the women who really do the work
Steady yes
Steady yes
Slowly now.

I want to go back to where everyone has the same,
and it’s enough.

It could take an hour to hang clothes dripping in the sun.
